Die "Internationale Amateursternwarte e. V." abgekürzt IAS, wurde im März 1999 in Deutschland von einer Gruppe engagierter Amateur-Astronomen gegründet und wird vom Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie (Heidelberg, Deutschland) unterstützt.
Das Hauptziel des IAS ist die Errichtung und der Betrieb von hochmodernen Observatorien in der Namibischen Wüste. Den Vereinsmitgliedern stehen Teleskope zur Verfügung, die für alle Bereiche der astronomischen Beobachtung und Fotografie geeignet sind.

Die Hakos Guest Farm (130 Kilometer südwestlich von Windhoek) und der nahe gelegene Gamsberg sind die ausgewählten Orte für die IAS-Observatorien.

Hakos Guest Farm and IAS Observatories

The “International Amateur Observatory e.V.” called IAS, was founded in Germany in March 1999 by a group of dedicated amateur astronomers and is supported by the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (Heidelberg, Germany).
The main objective of the IAS is to establish and operate state-of-the-art observatories in the Namibian Desert. The club members have access to telescopes that are suitable for all areas of astronomical observation and photography.
Hakos Guest Farm (130 kilometers southwest of Windhoek) and nearby Gamsberg are the selected locations for the IAS observatories.
