NGC 3228 / Open Cluster        Vela / Schiffssegel
Almost lost amongst the stars of the rich Milky Way is the compact open cluster NGC 3228.
It is a cluster of Trumpler type I1p or II3p, with few members. The brightest stars are all blue "A main sequence" stars and the hottest star is a red giant of spectral type B9. The galactic cluster has a diameter of approx. 5 arcminutes and an apparent brightness of 6.0 mag and is located at a distance of 1770 LY.
