NGC 1097 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Fornax (distance about 48 million light years). It is a severely interacting galaxy with obvious tidal debris and distortions caused by interaction with the companion galaxy NGC 1097A. It has the longest optical jets yet discovered on known galaxies (see animation) and I was surprised at how many quasars are in this image area.
